Gizmodo got a hands-on preview of the BlackBerry Curve 8900, codename Javelin, this week and apparently, they like it. The model was only a pre-production model, though, so BlackBerry will undoubtedly make improvements based off of these hands-on reviews.

The 8900, the successor to the Blackberry Curve, includes Blackberry’s newest and best software, version 4.6, which can not be used with the original Curve. The operating system is not only sleeker and better looking, it is also smoother and an overall better experience, according to Gizmodo. The 8900’s screen is also much crisper and looks more like the Bold’s screen. Compared to the original Curve, it is a much more powerful phone all together. 

The trackball and keyboard are said to be exactly like the current Curve’s, however, the phone’s hardware as a whole is slightly thinner. It lacks 3G which is definitely a huge loss, but Blackberry users have been living without it for years. However with a phone this good looking and an operating system this nice, they can live without it for a little bit longer. Overall, the phone is definitely a more consumer version of the Bold and definitely has the same relationship that the current Curve has to the BlackBerry 8800. Overall, if you can live without 3G and want a smaller phone, get the Curve 8900. No pricing or launch dates are known as of know, but a mid-November/December launch is expected.

Crackberry found more pictures of the BlackBerry Storm, they are a bit blurry, but you can see it pretty well. this is the second BlackBerry Storm found in the wild and they now say that it has a 3.2 MP camera, this is the second wild BlackBerry Storm and we hope to see a video and more shots of it later on.  Steve fit a lot of updates into today’s Let’s Rock event, but here’s a quick breakdown.

• iTunes 8.0 brought everything we expected. Some slight UI changes and a new Genius feature that recommends songs based off of what you listen to most. It will also make custom playlists for you besides song recommendations.
• iPod nano: Exactly as we expected. It looks like that orange iPod nano we saw in the leaks was in fact the new nano. Rocking a new, better looking UI, the new nano also rocks a rainbow of colors. Available in 9 colors include a PRODUCT (RED) version, the nano is $149 for 8GB and $199 for 16GB.
• iPod touch: The new touch rocks a similar curved form factor as the iPhone 3G, but sticks with its metal back. New features include a built-in Nike+ chip for use with the Nike+iPod product (also announced today to work with the touch), a built-in speaker with physical volume controls, and on-the-go Genius playlist creation. 8GB, 16GB, 32GB models available for $229, $299, and $399 respectively.
• iPod classic: Nothing spectacular for the classic today, Steve did kill of the 160GB and 80GB versions and replaced them both with a thin 120GB model. It rocks a $249 price tag.
• iPhone firmware 2.1: The new firmware for iPhone should include tons of bug fixes, improve battery life, signal, and app crashing. Available Friday for all iPhone users.

It’s been around three months since we’ve seen Apple leader Steve Jobs rocking his turtleneck and jeans, and tomorrow-unless something remarkable happens and Steve Jobs doesn’t introduce a product, because we all know there is no way on Earth he would miss that photo-op–we shall see his Steveness in his classic attire again.

Almost known facts for tomorrow: a new iPod nano going back to it’s long routes and iTunes 8.0 with some huge new features. Other items thought to be on the list: a revamped iPod touch, a new iPhone 2.1 software which could feature some top secret features (could we finally get copy and paste?), and hopefully a “one more thing…” to remember.

Next: how should you get live coverage of tomorrows events? The blargKABOOM was sadly not invited to the invite-only event in San Francisco, but we can give you some great recommendations on where to get your coverage. The three windows open on my screen tomorrow, Engadget.com, Live.Gizmodo.com, and MacRumors.com. Both Engadget and Gizmodo will have live coverage from the show and the guys at MacRumors will be grabbing coverage from everywhere. blargKABOOM will try to be as up-to-date as possible throughout the event, but for the most up-to-the-second news, stay with those three sites. The event starts at 10:00 am Pacific time, 1:00 pm Eastern time, and so on.

It is not officially official, but the earthquake this morning in the Los Angeles area at around 11:38 am took out AT&T’s wireless network. It could be that the system just shut off as a precaution, or something went terribly wrong due to the earthquake. More likely, the increased amount of calls killed the network, causing the “we’re sorry, your call could not be completed at this time.” It might even be a coincidence that AT&T was planning to take their servers down for testing.  Nobody knows what happened for sure yet, but stay tuned for more information.

Developers that were accepted into the iPhone Developer Program before July 11 were seeded the iPhone firmware and SDK beta 2.1. This beta according to multiple sources contains new GPS features that measure speed and direction of travel, or in other words turn-by-turn navigation. But what will make all Apple fanboys around the world excited (over probably nothing) are the mentions of “copy,” “paste,” “cut,” and more small fragments of words that could represent the most sought out feature that is not in the iPhone – copy and paste.

A week or so back, Apple head of iPod and iPhone marketing Greg Joswiak said that when making the iPhone 2.0 firmware, they tried to get in all of the most important features, and copy and paste didn’t make it high enough on the list.

For a while there, we thought Apple wasn’t responding to Psystar’s complete break of Apple’s EULA by running Mac OS X on a non-Apple authorized computer. When Steve Jobs reclaimed control of Apple way back in 1997, he ended agreements letting hardware companies use the Mac OS. Apple, as of July 3rd, has filed a complaint to the federal district court of northern California for copyright infringement and violations of its shrink wrap license and trademarks. They waited until now to file the complaint because Psystar had given out a modified version of Mac OS X 10.5.4, which is much worse than just breaking Apple’s EULA and helps Apple more in their case by offering more evidence. This was most definitely expected from Apple as Psystar didn’t play by Apple’s rules, which is never a good thing. We’ll see what is to come in this now on-going battle.

Both iPhone 2.0 and iPod touch 2.0 are fully available through iTunes, one problem however: DO NOT UPGRADE YOUR PHONE! The reason: iTunes servers are completely crashing right now, so if you download the update and start updating, iTunes servers won’t be able to confirm its the correct firmware and will leave your device unusable. Also, iPod touch firmware is $9.95, and it is definitely worth it to gain access to the App Store and other 2.0 features.

Be sure to update to iTunes 7.7 before installing the new firmware, as some users have reported errors.

In a shocking announcement earlier today, Blockbuster officially announced their bid to acquire Circuit City at between $6 – $8 per share. The announcement, which is as strange to you as it is to me, also mentions digital downloads which could mean Circuit City will go digital if the deal is a success. Today only marks the day of the public announcement, however, as February 17 was the date of the offer. Circuit City hasn’t done anything to move the deal forward, though, and Blockbuster is hoping to push the deal forward by going public.

Now you have 3 options to upgrade your phone to a 1.1.3 jailbroken iPhone/iPod touch, and this seems like the easiest. If you have a 1.1.1 or 1.1.2 jailbroken device than all you do is install a piece of software and it takes about 40 minutes, but when it’s done you’ll have a new jailbroken fun. This jailbreak is totally computer free, so if you’re not near a computer don’t worry.
