Apple releases iPhone 2.0 firmware early

iPhone 2.0 firmware was found on Apple’s file servers this morning, allowing early access to the new software update. The App Store went live early this morning and now iPhone 2.0 is here to complement it. Using the direct download requires a special installation however, and will erase your iPhone in the process. To install, simply download the file, then option click the “Check for Update” button in iTunes, and choose the .ipsw file  (if you have the .zip file, rename it .ipsw.)

Be sure to update to iTunes 7.7 before installing the new firmware, as some users have reported errors.
