iPhone SDK limits GPS applications

After looking over the iPhone SDK license agreement, one clause looked a little odd. “Applications may not be designed or marketed for real time route guidance…” Is Apple trying to stop GPS makers from getting navigation software on iPhone? It looks like it. According to a TomTom spokesperson, this is just Apple “trying to protect themselves.” We’d bet on that, too. Apple doesn’t want angry customers making lawsuits because they’ve followed directions that made them drive into an ocean. Most likely, developers will get around this clause. And, this would definitely be a popular application to see on iPhone. We’ll see when the App Store launches.
