Microsoft thinking about Office and voice recognition apps for iPhone
Some big shots at Microsoft hinted to Fortune Magazine’s blog that they were looking into creating Office applications and a voice recognition application for iPhone earlier today. “It’s really important for us to understand what we can bring to the iPhone,” Tom Gibbons, corporate vice president of Microsoft’s Specialized Devices and Applications Group said. What’s very interesting is his next quote - “To the extent that Mac Office customers have functionality that they need in that environment [meaning iPhone], we’re actually in the process of trying to understand that now.” So that quote not only tells us that Microsoft is looking into Office for iPhone. but that they are considering the iPhone an extension of the Mac user base. Now, this may just be my opinion, but I know there are plenty of Window’s users out there with iPhones that would love to have Office for iPhone. Just something to think about.
The second application talked about was TellMe, a voice recognition program that Microsoft acquired a year ago. TellMe is currently developing for Microsoft’s Windows Mobile, but according to TellMe’s general manager Mike McCue they are definitely interested in iPhone. “If the SDK supports these things we’re absolutely going to get a version out there as soon as we can, get TellMe out there on the iPhone,” said McCue.
