Office 2008 for Mac has arrived

 officestarup.jpg

Mac Office just arrived in the mail today and I’m super excited. In case you don’t know, Microsoft Office is what the average user uses every day. It contains programs like Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Entourage, and more. The interface is very new, some will like it some won’t. It definitely looks much more modern and creative than Office 2004. The new icons are still using the same basic shape, but now they’ve got a white outline and a glossier look. Home and Student Edition is what I ordered and it comes with 3 licenses, one for your home computer, one for your office, and one if you have a laptop (like the new MacBook Air). The installation process is very simple. It just asks for your product key, and it installs. It even checks for older versions of Office and asks if you want to delete them.

Click on for some pictures of Office 2008 and a quick tip that is pretty much necessary for the avid Word user. A video of our unboxing of Office 2008 is also available after you click Read more.

Quick Tip for Word: When I use Word, which is usually on a day-to-day basis, I need to have my Format bar in the menu. When you open Word for the first time, it doesn’t have it up there so in order to get it there and customize your toolbar, open the View tab, and click “Customize Toolbars and Menus” – there you will find all of the wonders of customizing your toolbar into the toolbar of your dreams.

Icons - As you can tell, Microsoft has done a revamp on the icons for the entire Office set

Project Gallery - Very basic, and very much the same as the last versions gallery.

The new Word - As you can see, the new Word has some new curves and looks great.

Excel 2008 - Excel, like the rest of Office, has the same new look.

PowerPoint - The presentation maker in Office has mostly the same features as before just with the design revamp of 2008. I, though, prefer the ease of use and better looking Keynote in iWork.

Entourage - I’ve never been a big Entourage user, but for those of you that do: it looks like a much better version than the last one. I like that it combines a Calendar, and tasks, and mail, and all of that good stuff into one application though.

My Day, a new addition to Office - My Day, a combination app to Entourage, is like a widget that houses your schedule for the day and holds your to-do’s and anything that would normally be on your daily calendar/agenda.
